The Kappa Delta Lion, located in front of the Rayburn Student Center, commemorates the 50th anniversary of Kappa Delta Sorority, Gamma Upsilon Chapter at Texas A&M University-Commerce. The Kaidishan Club, organized at East Texas State Teachers College in 1950, received a charter from Kappa Delta on May 14, 1960, when the Texas State Teachers Colleges lifted the ban on national fraternities and sororities.
