Mayo Hall originally served as a men's dormitory. The building was a Public Works Administration construction project with an original cost of $106,500. The structure was capable of housing over seventy students, and it also housed a cafeteria and recreational room. Mayo Hall served many purposes through the years including a dormitory and office space for the Air Force ROTC, a dormitory for athletes, a dormitory for female honors students, offices for the Speech and Hearing Clinic, and the Educational Development and Training Center. Mayo Hall was in need of numerous repairs by the time it closed in the 1980s. A variety of plans were developed to remodel the building for use. Mayo Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, but was demolished in 2008. The building was located on the southeast edge of campus at the intersection of Monroe and Stonewall Streets, facing Education Drive. A portion of the pediment that once adorned the front of Mayo Hall now rests along the sidewalk where the building once stood.
