Zeppa Center

Construction of the Zeppa Center began in November 1975, and despite problems with the foundation of the swimming pool, the $2.5 million center opened September 29, 1976. The Zeppa Center contained a large swimming pool, an exercise therapy room, handball and racquetball courts, eight bowling lanes, a carpeted and enclosed patio for sunbathing, and a multipurpose room. In June 1983, a severe rain storm destroyed the roof of the Zeppa Center and the handball courts necessitating extensive renovation which took place over the course of the next academic year. The Zeppa Center was named for Joseph Zeppa, one of the original appointees to the East Texas State University's Board of Regents. The Zeppa Center was demolished in 2001 to make way for the Jerry D. Morris Recreation Center.
